How do I register for a tournament?

You can register online through our website or in person at the club before the tournament starts.

What are the time controls for each tournament format?

Blitz: Each player has a total of 5 minutes for the entire game, with a 2-second delay before each move.

Rapid: Each player has a total of 25 minutes for the entire game, with a 5-second delay before each move.

Classical: Each player has a total of 50 minutes for the entire game, with a 20-second delay before each move.

How much does it cost to enter a tournament?

Our weekly Blitz tournaments are always free, so everyone can enjoy the fast-paced excitement of Blitz chess! For our Rapid and Classical tournaments however, there’s a small entry fee to help cover cost of running a CFC rated event: $10 for KWCC members and $20 for non-members. Join the club today to enjoy the discounted member rate!

Do I need to be a KWCC member to play in a tournament?

Absolutely not! Everyone is welcome to join our Blitz tournaments, whether you’re a seasoned member or just curious about chess. For our Rapid and Classical tournaments, there’s a small entry fee, but KWCC members get a discounted rate. So, if you’re planning to play in those, consider becoming a member to make the most of your chess experience!

What is the tournament schedule?

Most of our tournaments happen every Tuesday evening, except for holidays and a few other special dates. We also host weekend tournaments that are completed in a day or two for those who prefer a faster pace. If you’re looking for a more immersive experience, our Classical tournaments unfold over five weeks, with one game played each Tuesday night, allowing for deep strategic thinking and analysis. For those who prefer a bit more action, our Rapid tournaments take place over three weeks, with two games per night, offering a balance of strategy and quick decision-making. What types of chess tournaments does KWCC host?

We offer a variety of tournaments, including Rapid, Blitz, and Classical, to cater to different playing styles and preferences.

What are the rules and regulations for KWCC tournaments?

We follow the standard rules of chess as defined by CFC (Chess Federation of Canada). Specific tournament rules can be found on our Resources page
